Key information
Overview
In 2025, the Board undertook a high-level exercise to review soft-tissue injury compensation in motor liability accidents in Ireland versus the UK and Northern Ireland, covering the period 2022 to 2024. Under the Action Plan for Insurance Reform, the Board is now seeking to carry out a second study which will be a broader exercise, covering a wider range of injuries or severity types, liability types, an increased number of jurisdictions, and involving a greater number of insurers. The aim of research is to review compensation levels across three liability categories – motor, employer and public liability - and to extend beyond minor severity injuries to include minor, moderate and severe injuries utilising data from the Injuries Resolution Board, Irish Insurers and other jurisdictions using publicly available data and other data sources as appropriate.
