Key information
Overview
The project involves remedial conservation works to the Rossmore Memorial Fountain, a protected Victorian Gothic Revival monument (built 1875–76 by Robinson and Son of Belfast) located in The Diamond, Monaghan. The fountain is a significant architectural and historical landmark, originally erected to commemorate Henry Robert Westenra, 4th Baron Rossmore, and funded by public subscription. Project Objectives Stabilise and conserve the monument’s historic masonry and carved stonework, focusing on areas of active deterioration and public safety risks. Preserve original materials and craftsmanship using minimal intervention and reversible, lime-based conservation techniques. Maintain the monument’s role as the architectural centrepiece of Monaghan’s main public square, ensuring public safety and accessibility during works.
