Overview

The project involves the provision of a new pavement surface for the M6 motorway section between the Junction 4 and up to Junction 5, including the ramps and circulatory of the roundabouts at Junction 5 only, in Co. Westmeath. Location of the Works The site is located on the M6 motorway, in the County of Westmeath. Extending approximately between the marker post M6 MP 20.4 to M6 MP 30.7. The site includes the motorway dual carriageway between Junction 4 (Tyrrellspass) and Junction 5 (Tullamore) The Existing Environment The works will take place on the existing M6 which is a dual carriageway motorway between Junction 4 and Junction 5. The topography of the region is generally flat. Temporary traffic management will be required to execute the works. This section of the M6 motorway carries an annual average daily traffic of approximately 23,282 AADT, of which approximately 8.2 percent comprises heavy goods vehicles. The posted speed limit is 120km/h along the M6 section. Live traffic is considered a significant hazard on this project. Description of the Works The scope of works required is summarised briefly as follows: • Liaison with Transport Infrastructure Ireland, Westmeath County Councils, and external bodies; • Relaying new pavement surface, road markings, road studs and replacing existing delineation posts; • Provision of temporary traffic management. The works are anticipated to include removal of existing road studs, milling/planning out of existing pavement surfaces, disposal of waste to licenced facility, relaying new pavement surface, reinstating pavement surface finishes, provision and installation of road studs and road lining. Other Works Activities There may be other works activities on site such as material sample collecting and testing which may be undertaken for this project. The PSCS shall consult with the appropriate Road Authority and Maintaining Organisation to determine if any other works activities are planned to take place within or adjacent to the site. The PSCS will be responsible for organising cooperation between sub-contractors to ensure that the works are co-ordinated in a safe manner with a view to protecting persons at work and preventing accidents and injury to health. It is anticipated that weekly coordination meetings will take place on site. The full scope of the works and the obligations of the Contractor are to be ascertained by reference to the Contract as a whole. Time for Completion of Project The estimated period for completion of the whole of the works is 16 weeks. This estimate is based on the assumption of suitable weather conditions.
