Overview
In late 2025, Cahiracon Point, Co. Clare was selected by Gas Network Ireland as the preferred site for a proposed National Strategic Gas Emergency Reserve (SGER). The SGER will involve the construction of a new berth with Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) being imported and stored on board a Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) to be moored at the berth. Shannon Foynes Port Company (SFPC), the Contracting Entity is the Statutory Port Authority for the navigable waters of the Shannon Estuary and as such is seeking to engage in a competitive process with suitability qualified economic operators to conduct a Navigational Risk Assessment associated with the Proposed Strategic Gas Emergency Reserve at Cahircon Point in the Shannon Estuary.
