Overview
The scope of the proposed remedial works is summarised briefly as follows: • Site set-up; • Installation of water quality protection measures; • Traffic management; • Site clearance including vegetation clearance from embankments adjacent to the bridge; • Removal of all vegetation and algae from stonework faces; • Graffiti removal; • Cleaning of stonework (specialist mild abrasive blast system appropriate to protected structures); • Masonry Repairs (high quality sympathetic repairs by historic structure specialist mason); • Masonry Repointing of Joints (by historic structures specialist); • Repair of existing concrete scour aprons; • Parapet Balusters (in-situ repairs, surface prep and repainting); • Replacement of Heritage Lamp Standards and Lantern Heads; • Electrical works associated with Heritage Lighting; • Breakout of existing footpaths and construction of new footpaths; • Planing out existing road pavement and undertaking road pavement inlay; • Provision of new parapet architectural striplighting and associated electrical works; • Surface preparation and maintenance painting of existing watermain running along the southern elevation of the bridge. Galway City Council reserves the right to add additional contracts to this competition over the next few years 4 years with the an estimate spend of €2.5m.
