AdBlue este un reducător de noxe (a emisiilor de NOx) şi este necesar utilizării convertoarelor cu reducere catalitică selectivă, aşa-numitele convertoare SCR (reducere catalitică selectivă), la autovehiculele cu motoare diesel. Convertoarele SCR sunt deosebit de adecvate pentru reducerea selectivă a emisiilor de oxid de azot (NOx) ale motoarelor diesel.
